Hosmer Community Rowing (CommRow) runs four afternoons a week on Great Hosmer Pond, from early summer through the end of September. While CommRow remains available for all ages and abilities, for 2025 the program offers more opportunities for juniors than in previous years, with Thursdays being a Junior-focused day. CommRow scullers will learn primarily in the single.
Experienced CommRow participants and rowers who’ve attended Craftsbury’s sculling camps rowers are welcome to attend CommRow any or all four days, Monday-Thursday. Beginners and rowers new to Craftsbury must attend at least one Wednesday session initially. Most participants’ first session in the program will feature a flip and recovery experience, so bring a towel and a change of clothes for your first day. After instruction, the flip experience gives you the chance to demonstrate you can get back into a boat or swim to shore in the event of a capsize.
“I’m staying at Craftsbury and want to join CommRow!”
We’d love to have you! After registering for a session, Houseguests (those staying on-site) can participate for free. The front office will provide you with a coupon code to sign up for CommRow and fitness classes.
If you’re a houseguest who has rowed at Craftsbury before (camp or commrow) - good to go, no flip needed, come any day Monday through Thursday.
If you’re a houseguest who has rowed before, but not at Craftsbury - a flip test is needed, but can be accommodated any day.
If you’re a houseguest who has never rowed before: flip needed, Wednesdays only.
“I’ve rowed before, but not at Craftsbury.”
We’d love to welcome you to the Center and rowing! If you have never been to CommRow before, have never rowed at Craftsbury before, and/or have less than one year of experience, your first CommRow session must be on a Wednesday. Upon receiving approval of the head coach, participants can purchase an upgrade to the intermediate program that allows them to begin attending CommRow any day from Monday-Thursday.
