This scholarship aims to honor Larry's legacy by providing access to the rowing programs at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Larry valued all rowers whether they were novice or elite and truly believed that everyone should be able to "mess about in boats". Each year the scholarship will provide funding to help young rowers overcome financial barriers to attend summer camps and training at the center, with a focus on helping rowers of color and those from marginalized groups.
About Larry
While Larry Gluckman's coaching career took him to many places from Dartmouth to Princeton to Trinity, he had ongoing connections to the Northeast Kingdom and Craftsbury through Concept2 and the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. During his coaching years, he frequently spent time coaching the sculling camps and was the founding force behind our GRP U23 program (formerly known as the Craftsbury Small Boat Training Center). Coach Gluckman always made a point of meeting athletes wherever they were at, while being certain to share with them his genuine enthusiasm for the sport and all it could offer.
“I found myself appreciating all that the camp had to offer at a more personal level. My appreciation for the sport grew even more with the providers' generosity, as they allowed me to explore and learn of realms of sculling that have enriched my career as a rower.” - 2022 Scholarship recipient, Alexa M.
