In the final weekend of World Cup and SuperTour racing for the Green Racing Project skiers before the holidays, the team found success at both levels. Ida Sargent finished Period 1 on the World Cup with a personal best in the freestyle sprint in Davos, and the rest of the team had several podium appearances during the combined NorAm/SuperTour weekend in Sovereign Lake, British Columbia.

World Cup in Davos, Switzerland
Sargent started off her day in the freestyle sprint with a blazing fast qualifier, taking 5th. She advanced through her quarterfinal as a lucky loser and placed 2nd in her semifinal, after leading most of the heat. In the A Final, she joined fellow Americans Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins in a final composed of half American skiers. American. Randall went on to place 3rd, Diggins was 4th, and Sargent finished 6th, her personal best finish in the freestyle sprint in Davos. She’ll skip the last World Cup distance weekend in Period 1 (in Toblach, Italy next weekend) and will instead race at the OPA Cup in Seefeld, Austria, site of next year’s World Championships. Results from the World Cup are available on FIS-ski.com.

NorAm/SuperTour at Sovereign Lake, BC
For the final weekend of SuperTour racing for Period 1, the US circuit teamed up with the NorAm circuit in Canada, and racers traveled to Silver Star, BC to race at Sovereign Lake. Saturday was a classic sprint, and Kaitlynn Miller led the GRP contingent in qualification, winning the women’s qualifier. Caitlin Patterson and Liz Guiney also qualified for women, in 5th and 21st, respectively, and Ben Lustgarten qualified in 14th for men. Adam Martin was 35th in his qualifier. All three GRP women advanced to the A Final, where Miller took the victory, Patterson was 2nd, and Guiney took 5th. Ben Lustgarten was eliminated in his quarterfinal heat and took 18th overall. Miller’s victory was her first SuperTour sprint victory, although she has made the podium on several occasions.
On Sunday, the men raced a 15k freestyle individual, while the women raced 10k. The GRP men had strong finishes, with Adam Martin placing 5th and Ben Lustgarten taking 7th. In the women’s race, Caitlin Patterson skied to a 30 second victory over 2nd place, while Miller and Guiney skied to 9th and 15th places, respectively. The skiers have a break from racing until the domestic circuit starts up again in January, with US Nationals in Anchorage, Alaska. Results from the Sovereign Lake NorAm are available on Zone4.ca.
