GRP Biathletes Race IBU and World Cups in Italy and Austria

This past weekend saw considerable biathlon racing action with GRP biathletes competing at both the IBU Cup in Ridnaun-Val-Ridanna, Italy and the World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria.
IBU Cup
The IBU Cup weekend began with a two relay races. Hallie Grossman and Jake Brown competed in the single mixed relay where they placed 18th out of 25 teams with no penalty laps and 10 spares. They were lapped on their final leg. In the mixed relay, Emily Dreissigacker and Alex Howe were joined by USBA teammates Deedra Irwin and Max Durtschi. The team placed 11th with one penalty and 15 spares. Both Emily and Alex shot clean and used four spares each.
In the sprint event, Emily had the top GRP performance of the day placing 50th. She was followed by Kelsey Dickinson in 55th and Hallie in 66th. For the men, Jake had a strong race placing 15th with two misses and earning his first World Cup start rights. Alex finished 65th.
In the pursuit, Emily moved up from 50th to 38th with four misses while Kelsey moved up from 55th to 42nd. Jake also earned a pursuit start, but traveled to Hochfilzen instead to compete in the World Cup relay. The IBU squad now heads to Obertilliach, Austria for more racing next weekend.
World Cup:
The second World Cup weekend of the season kicked off with a sprint in which Susan Dunklee placed 34th with two misses and Clare placed 65th. In the following day’s pursuit, Susan moved up to 28th with only two misses.
In the women’s relay, Susan and Clare were joined by USBA teammates Joanne Reid and Deedra Irwin. The team placed 13th with one penalty and 9 spares. Both Clare and Susan shot clean using only one spare each. In the men’s relay, Jake, in his World Cup debut, was joined by USBA teammates Leif Nordgren, Sean Doherty, and Travis Cooper. The team placed 12th with no penalties and 10 spares. Jake shot clean using two spares. The next stop on the World Cup tour will be in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. Stay tuned!
