2022 Sculling camp interns
We’re excited to kick off the sculling camp season for wide variety of reasons, but not least of which is the chance to welcome a new batch of sculling interns. The internship offers high school and collegiate rowers the opportunity to spend several weeks at Craftsbury, improving their own sculling and working to support the camps. Anyone who has attended a Craftsbury sculling camp knows what an asset the interns are.
We’d like to introduce our 2022 lineup:
Nick Turri - May 12-27
This will be Nicolas' second summer interning at Craftsbury. Nicolas just finished his first year at the University of Vermont, where he is majoring in Medical Laboratory Science. Prior to college, he attended Middletown High School in Connecticut, where he rowed all four years of high school, varsity since sophomore and captaining his junior and senior years.
Campbell Leid - May 12-27
Campbell learned to row as a rising sophomore at Mile High Rowing club in Colorado after 8+ years as a competitive swimmer, rowing for Tempe Junior Crew in Phoenix the remainder of her high school career. In addition to her athletic success, she’s a Level 2 USRowing certified coach and served as an assistant coach for TJC for the ‘21-22 season prior to beginning my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia. “My passion for rowing continues to grow every day,” writes Campbell. “I am so excited to be a part of the Craftsbury community alongside people who share the same love and excitement for the sport.”
Elisabeth Stevens - June 2-10
Elisabeth Stevens is a sophomore at Calvin University studying strategic communication and gender studies. She is originally from The Woodlands, TX where she rowed for Rowing Club of The Woodlands for three years. In her free time, Elisabeth enjoys singing in an acapella group, reading whatever books she can find, and taking long walks in the campus nature preserve.
Lily Haupt - June 2-17
Lily has been competitively rowing since her freshman year of high school in Philadelphia, PA, on iconic Boathouse Row. As a rising sophomore at Indiana University, majoring in Biology with a minor in piano music, she has continued her pursuit of the sport on the Big10 team. Lily credits much of her success and skills within the sport of rowing, specifically sculling, to her days as a camper and intern at Craftsbury. She is excited and cannot wait to work with everyone and share her love for sculling!
Laine Betanzos - June 2-17
Laine is a rising sophomore history major at Colgate University from Dallas, Texas. She began sculling in high school at The Hockaday School, a member of the varsity 4x and 1st lightweight 2x, and has now finished her first year of sweeping in the second varsity 8+ at Colgate. A two time camper at Craftsbury, Laine is excited to return this year as an intern. Off the water, she loves being outdoors, reading, running, and coffee.

Annie Cloud is from Narberth, PA, just outside of Philadelphia. She started rowing her freshman year at Lower Merion High School and continued rowing all four years there. She primarily raced in doubles, her favorite pairing being the double that she raced with her triplet sister. Annie will be a freshman at Stanford in the fall and will be rowing on their lightweight women’s team. This is Annie’s second summer at Craftsbury and she is super excited to be back.

Competitive high points so far were the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in 2019 and Youth Nationals in 2021. “Sculling in a single is always the highlight of my summer and I can’t wait to be back at Craftsbury,” writes Sophia. “Having been a camper at Craftsbury twice in high school, I am very excited to be back as an intern to help others fall in love with the sport and perfect their rowing stroke.”
Jocalyn Ortega - July 7-29
Jocalyn is a rising sophomore at Stetson University in DeLand, FL. Jocalyn first started rowing as a rising freshman, joining her club just as it was starting. Before rowing, she played a wide variety of sports: tennis, lacrosse, soccer and volleyball - but immediately fell in love with rowing. “There is no greater feeling than when you’re on the water, get that perfect catch, and feel that water run under your boat - it is truly magical!” explains Jocalyn. “I can’t wait to come back this summer for another great Craftsbury experience!”
Jack Krueger - July 7-15
Jack Krueger will graduate this spring from Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas where he rowed the last four years. This fall Jack will head to Texas A&M, studying mechanical Engineering in their honors program and rowing a single for the club team. Apart from rowing, Jack likes spending time outdoors alone or with friends, and enjoys fishing, working out, hiking, and general exploring. “I am very excited to intern at Craftsbury and continue learning under my former high coach, Troy Howell, and all the other fantastic coaches at Craftsbury,” writes Jack.
