March 6th TNR: Ski-Orienteering
Last Updated: 05.Mar.2018
In conjunction with the Ski Orienteering World Cup and World Masters Championships that we are holding this week, we are hosting a special edition Tuesday Night Race! Whether you have never heard of Ski-O or are a seasoned orienteer, TNR #9 will give you the chance to try out the sport, which combines skiing speed and skill with navigational ability.
Registration will run from 3:15 – 3:45 in the Activity Center as usual. At check-in, you will receive a map and a timing chip. At 3:45, Ski-O guru Ed will give all racers the rundown on how the race will work, so don’t be late! The race will be freestyle, interval start, with :30 between racers. Each racer will have to visit a set number of control points, using their map to choose the fastest route. The course will be almost entirely on our normal ski trails (we won’t be sending beginner orienteers gallivanting through the new temporary singletrack trails, don’t worry!) and will be set to yield an approximately 20:00 winning time.
One last important note: each racer should bring something they can use to hold their map for easy viewing while they ski. The simplest suggestion: bring a gallon bag with string attached to hang the map around your neck.
