GRP Skiers Race Lahti World Cup and Cogne OPA Cup

The entirety of the Green Racing Project ski team is abroad right now, competing on either the World Cup or at OPA Cups, the central European equivalent of the SuperTour circuit. Ida Sargent, Caitlin Patterson, and Kaitlynn Miller raced in Lahti, Finland in the first weekend World Cup racing after the Olympics. Ben Lustgarten, Adam Martin, and Liz Guiney were in Cogne, Italy racing OPA Cups.

The Lahti weekend opened with a freestyle sprint. In qualifying, Sargent led the way in 21st place. Patterson was 56th and Miller 61st in the qualifier. Sargent went on to place 6th in her quarterfinal, good for 27th on the day. The following day the women raced a 10k classic individual start. Patterson had the top GRP result in 32nd, Sargent placed 40th, and Miller was 51st. The World Cup continues on March 7 with city sprints in Drammen, Norway, and then the Holmenkollen 30/50k freestyle mass starts in Oslo over the weekend. Cogne OPA Cup
Meanwhile in central Europe, the GRP joined a group of Americans competing on OPA Cups. The weekend opened with a 10/15k individual start classic race. In the women’s 10k, Guiney placed 10th. On the men’s side, Martin finished 14th and Lustgarten was 19th. The following day was a 15k freestyle pursuit for both genders, with the start determined by the previous day’s finish. In the women’s pursuit, Guiney finished 17th. On the men’s side, Martin placed 24th and Lustgarten was 30th. All three GRPers are now in La Feclaz, France where they will race a French Cup over the weekend before heading to OPA Finals in Spain. Results from the OPA Cup are available on FIS-ski.com.
