Monarch butterfly newly emerged from its chrysalis

When out exploring last week, I found a chrysalis hanging on a small bush. I brought it home to Shanty 4 and hung it on a stick and waited to see what would happen. This beautiful monarch butterfly greeted me this morning. I was curious about an October-born monarch and I've learned that butterflies born in September and October are considered fourth generation butterflies. These will not die after two to six weeks like the summers' previous generations. This butterfly will fly to Mexico and will live for six to eight months.
