Here at the Center, we believe that electric vehicles (EVs) are the future of post-carbon transportation. In a rural area like ours where personal cars are nearly required on a daily basis, a huge part of our carbon footprint is due to transportation.
We have several EV charging locations in our two main parking lots, free for all guests, visitors and staff to use - though donations are appreciated and help us increase our capacity! Click above or see Plugshare for specifics at either location, but broadly we have several:
non-networked J-1772 chargers
NEMA 14-50, NEMA 14-30, NEMA 6-50 outlets
and 120v Level 1 wall outlets
Unlike the chargers, the outlets listed above do require you have your own charger to make use of them.
Guidelines for EV Charging
We’re thrilled you’re making use of the charging stations here at Craftsbury! Changes such as EV usage can help limit additional climate change. However, we also want to be respectful members of the community, no matter what we’re driving.
Done charging? Unplug and move!
Only park here when plugged in or waiting to plug in and actively charge. Once charged, unplug and move so others can charge.
Don’t unplug others, car damage can occur.
Unless the driver has left a note saying its ok, don’t unplug someone else. They might need that charge to get home, vehicle alarms can go off, and in some cases you may even damage the plug connector if it is locked to the vehicle.
Plug-in hybrid owners: be thoughtful about charging or parking here when the Center is busy.
EV owners may be relying on this charger to make it home. If your hybrid is lacking range, there’s also gas in the village.
Thanks again for being a part of preserving winter and the climate for all of us!
Electric Launches
We also use electricity to power our coaching launches for our sculling camps and programs. Between uses, the launches charge at a special dock-side charging station. These electric boats have the added benefit of keeping our lake quiet and free of pollution.
