In addition to our efficient new buildings, we are also making an effort to retrofit and upgrade some of our older buildings to make them more efficient. It is important for us to preserve and improve our existing buildings wherever it makes sense.
Cedar continues to serve our guests with a new well-insulated roof, many new windows, and solar hot water panels on the roof. In 2015, after running some calculations and determining how much energy we could save, we installed a new roof on Cedar Lodge, adding 12 inches of blown cellulose insulation. With the added insulation and heat from our central wood heating system, we can now heat Cedar lodge efficiently and cleanly.
We are underway with efforts to retrofit our outlying farmhouses, which serve as athlete and staff housing. These retrofits include basement repair and insulation, attic insulation, sealing around windows and doors, heat pump water heaters, and swapping out oil boilers for pellet boilers. All of these changes are part of our effort to reduce the overall carbon footprint of our organization.
