Kick off your race season at the Outdoor Center

Saturday, Dec. 7 - Rodrigues Freestyle Sprints - Register now at SkiReg.com

Sunday, Dec. 8 - Kendall Memorial classic interval start - Register now at SkiReg.com

We are excited to invite racers to the open the 2024-25 race season with us at the Outdoor Center. Whether you are a sprinter, a distance skier, or both, you can open your season with a fun, low-key race at the Outdoor Center. Freestyle “knock-in” sprints kick off the weekend on Saturday in honor of our friend and mentor Jim Rodrigues, while Sunday brings classic interval starts in memory of longtime ski timer and friend Tom Kendall. A portion of Sunday’s race fees will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Saturday's format will be a repeat of the popular Royal Court format (though we are referring to them as “knock-in” rounds now). After racing a qualifier on our updated FIS homologated sprint course just like a standard sprint, ALL competitors, regardless of age class or gender, will be seeded into 6-person heats based on their times. Qualifiers 1-6 will be in the first round, 7-12 in the second, and so on. Heats will go off every 3 minutes and competitors will be “knocked in” to different heats depending on their performance. If you finish top 2 in your heat, you move “up” to the next fastest heat. Middle two positions (3rd and 4th) will remain in the same heat, while finishers 5 and 6 will move down to the heat below. This way the heats are constantly reseeded based on how competitors are performing.

New for 2024: we will be creating racing blocks in order to better replicate the experience of racing sprint rounds. Competitors 1-42 will be seeded into 7 heats of 6 and a heat will go off every 3 minutes until everyone has done 3 rounds. This will allow racers to race approximately every 20 minutes and then be done. Then we will move on to competitors 43-84 with the same format and so on until everyone has raced 3 heats. Everyone will race three rounds.

Prizes will be given to the top 3 skiers of each gender and then the top U18/20, U16, and BKL skiers of each gender. The qualifier will be scored to both the FIS and NRL points lists.

Saturday schedule will be posted shortly.

Sunday brings 7.5km and 5km classic interval starts in honor of the late Tom Kendall. The open (7.5km) races will be scored to the FIS and NRL points lists as well.

Sunday Schedule:

Racing kicks off with the open men's 7.5km at 10am, with subsequent races falling on the half hour. Find a detailed schedule below:

Low Snow Contingency

Due to a warm start to the winter, we have pivoted to an interval start. In terms of courses, our first course preference for the individual start is two laps of the 3.75km. If the 3.75km is not available, we will use our homologated 2.5km for all races (including the U16 races).

A Note on Points

In order to enter the race weekend with points for seeding, racers must renew their relevant licenses prior to November 28, 2024 in order to be updated on list 3. This means that they must be members in good standing with all membership requirements completed (e.g. background checks, SafeSport training, Avalanche training, etc.). Competitors who complete their membership requirements after the 11.28.24 close date will not carry seed points into the race and will be seeded at 990. They can still score race points on race day.
