Jake Brown posted a career best 12th place in the Sprint competition at Biathlon World Championships. This result is also a high water mark for the US Men’s Team this season.

The men’s sprint is a 10km competition where athletes shoot 5 shots in the prone position and 5 shots standing. One athlete starts every 30 seconds in a time trial format.

Brown started his race 24th in the 104 man field, amongst many of the pre-race favorites. Brown began his race at a fast but steady pace, with the 38th best first loop. He then proceeded to methodically hit all 5 of his prone targets in just under 30seconds.

Jake continued his steady skiing on the second lap, with the 42ndquickest loop. Just like his prone stage, Jake felled all his targets and quickly got back on course.

Steaming around the last lap, Jake picked up positions as he went, posting the 11th best final lap split time.

Brown spent most of the competition sitting in the top 10 places, before losing a few positions to later starters and concluding his outstanding day ranked 12th.

Jake’s 12th place result places him right in the thick of the February 14th Pursuit competition, where athletes will start in order of their Sprint finish. Sitting only 45 seconds behind World Champion Martin Ponsiluoma of Sweden and 21 seconds from 6th place Quentin Fillon Maillet of France, Jake will be going head to head with the best in biathlon.

Jake will start the Pursuit race at 7:15 EST on Sunday February 14th. For a full replay of Jake’s race, detailed results and more from Biathlon World Championships visit www.biathlonworld.com
