GRP biathletes Jake Brown and Clare Egan made up half of Team USA’s 12th place Mixed Relay Squad at IBU World Championships in Pokljuka, Slovenia.

The Mixed Relay format consists of 2 male and 2 female biathletes, each shooting once prone and once standing. Before each shooting stage and before the finish athletes ski a 2.5km loop. Each athlete gets three extra shots per shooting stage to fell their 5 targets.

Brown took the second leg of the relay, getting the tag from his teammate Sean Doherty in 11th place. After a steady first loop, Jake needed no extra rounds to clean his first 5 targets. Jake picked up the pace on the next loop but needed two extra rounds to hit all his standing targets. Jake put down a blistering last lap to keep Team USA in 11th place.

After taking the tag from Joanne Reid in 12th place, Clare Egan started quickly into her leg of the competition. Egan needed a single spare round in prone and kept the pressure on through the second loop. Despite needing two spare rounds to clean her standing targets, Clare defended her position and brought the squad home in 12th position.

IBU World Championships continue tomorrow with the Men’s Sprint. Jake Brown will be starting bib number 24 at 8:42 Eastern Standard Time.
