With winning Sunday’s men’s single B-final, Ben Davison (Ivernesss, FL) wrapped up the Craftsbury Small Boat Training Center’s action at the U23 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Holding first-place position throughout the race, Davison won the B-final with a time of 7:01.4. He beat single scullers from Romania, Lithuania, Hungary, Kazakhstan and Monaco.

Davison’s seventh place finish marks the best United States finish in the men’s single. The previous best finish was former SBTC athlete and current Green Racing Project rower, Ben Dann (Pound Ridge, NY), who got 11th at the 2011 U23 Championships. Davison topped his performance at last year’s U23 Championships, where he finished 21st.

The other SBTC crews finished their racing on Saturday in the C-final. In the men’s double, Ned Benning (Weston, MA) and Taylor Beach (Camarillo, CA) finished fourth in the C-final with a time of 6:43.4. Benning and Beach spent the first half of the race in sixth place, but after the 1000 meter mark, the two came back passing crews from Maldova and Bulgaria. The winner of their final was Russia, who rowed the course in 6:34.0. Benning and Beach missed the A/B semifinal by two spots in the repechage. This was Beach’s first U23 World Championships and Benning’s second U23 team. Benning won bronze in the men’s straight four at the 2013 U23 World Championships.

The women’s double of Mary Carmack (Veazie, ME) and Megan Goodman (Pleasanton, CA) won the C-final with a time of 7:29.1, over crews from Maldova and Bulgaria. Carmack and Goodman missed a berth to the A/B semifinal in the repechage by one spot, losing to Denmark by 6 seconds. This was both athletes’ first trip to the U23 World Championships.

Attending the World Championships with the SBTC was their coach Troy Howell.

The SBTC will finish up the summer at the Canadian Henley in St. Catharine’s, Ontario.
