Last Updated: 03.Mar.2017
Cross Country World Championships in Lahti, Finland, are winding down, with only the 30k and 50k freestyle races remaining. Two GRP skiers, Ida Sargent and Ben Lustgarten, represented the US over in Lahti earlier this week. It was Sargent's fourth World Championships, while for Lustgarten it was his first World Champs, after he starting in his first World Cup races just last weekend.
Freestyle Sprint
Sargent competed in the first event of the Championships, a freestyle sprint, last Thursday. She placed 27th in the qualifier, and then took 5th in her quarterfinal heat, which moved her up to 24th on the day. 24th is her personal best result at a World Championships, and she is currently ranked 13th in the World Cup sprint rankings.
10/15k Classic
Both Sargent and Lustgarten had starts for the individual classic races. On the challenging courses in Lahti, Sargent finished 43rd in the 10k classic. The following day Lustgarten raced to a 55th place finish in the men's 15k classic.
World Cup racing will resume next weekend in Norway, with city sprints in Drammen, and then the famed 30/50k Holmenkollen, which will be classical style this year. Results from World Championships are available on FIS-ski.com.
