Fun and Success at the Bill Koch Festival

Last weekend, the pinnacle event of the youth ski season took place in Bethel, Maine: The New England Bill Koch League Festival. Under the tutelage of the Schulz family (Anna, Eric, and Amy!) and Mary O’Connell, a crew of Craftsbury BKL’ers travelled to the Protect our Winters themed event for two days of action packed racing.  

Saturday was skate relay day, with teams of two or three taking to the racecourse. In the 3rd and 4th grade girls race, the team of Isabel Linton and Anika Leahy took the win, while the team of Ruth Krebs, Emily Linton, and Anya Carlson was a close second. In the 3rd and 4th grade boys race, Team Charlie, comprised of Charlie Kehler and Charlie Isselhardt was 6th. In the 5th and 6th girls race, Anna Isselhardt, Estherline Carlson, and Emily Kimball were 3rd. In the 5th and 6th grade boys race, Trey Jones and Cormac Leahy were victorious, with Orion Cenkl and Charlie Krebs the runners up, and Alan Moody and Sage Grossi were 9th. In the 7th and 8th grade boys race, Jack Young, Brian Bushey, and David Moody were 2nd. 

On Sunday, everyone hit the classic tracks for the individual distance races. In the 1st and 2nd grade boys race, Thomas Kehler was 4th. In the 3rd and 4th grade boys race, Charlie Kehler was 8th and Charlie Isselhardt was 10th. In the 3rd and 4th grade girls race, Craftsbury had a very impressive showing. Anika was 2nd, Isabel was 3rd, Ruth was 4th, and Emily was 6th. Craftsbury also had very strong representation in the 5th and 6th grade boys race. Trey was 1st, Cormac was 2nd, Alan was 6th, Sage was 9th, and Charlie Krebs was 14th. In the 5th and 6th grade girls race, Anna Isselhart was 8th. In the 7th and 8th grade boys race, Jack Young was 4th and David Moody 31st.
