UPDATED: The Henchey Memorial Carnival - a how-to for February 5-6

UPDATE - Sunday, February 6:

With the fresh snow, the race jury has moved the men’s race on to the south 5k, which changes “How to get out to Ruthie’s and Sam’s” below. For 9:30-noon, users will have to use a slightly different way down Elinor’s Hill:

For Sunday morning, the access to Ruthie’s/Sam’s goes down the Elinor’s Uphill. Be careful - you have to cross the race course twice to execute this.

Where do I park?

Houseguests, racers and volunteers park at COC’s campus. All others park on our satellite locations - but get free day-skiing as acknowledgment of their inconvenience.

How can I watch some high end skiing?

Check out our spectator’s guide.

Where can I ski without worrying about crossing the race course?

  • The good news is that the racing will be kept to around 5-7k of our total 105k of groomed skiing. See course maps in the Race Guide.

  • The further away from the Center, the less you’ll notice racing. The space right by the Activity Center? It’s going to be hard to avoid.

  • Many favorites will be not impacted by racing at all:

    • Duck Pond

    • Murphy’s Field

    • The Village Trail and other outlying trails

    • All of the Craftsbury Trails in Greensboro

While others may involve a different approach than usual, it’s really only the very core 5k that will be closed to skiing during racing.

How do I get out to Ruthie’s and Sam’s when racing is going on?

Firstly, confirm racing is going on when you want to venture out. See detailed schedule in Race Guide. You may be able to squeeze out between races.

But then, check out this handy map that shows your way out (and back in):

Click on image above for a downloadable PDF. Yes, it’s geo-referenced! Remember how to use geo-referenced maps for offline/no cell navigation with this handy blog post.

How do I ski from other trailheads?

If you’re a day-skier, you’re already parking at another trailhead for the weekend. If you’re a houseguest, check out our satellite parking lots to escape racing completely and explore a much quieter side of Craftsbury. Unfortunately, we are not offering shuttles to satellite locations at this time.

What if I’m a member and want to avoid Craftsbury entirely? (Reciprocal skiing)

If you’re a current paid annual member, one of your benefits is a free day of skiing at other participating VSAA reciprocal pass partner ski areas. (Note: this is NOT available for complimentary annual members: Craftsbury, Greensboro and Albany residents).

Use your current membership receipt for your purchase as evidence of current membership. Craftsbury annual memberships are good for 12 months from date of purchase. Print it out or have it ready on your phone to show our VSAA pass partners wherever you’re visiting.

Where can I fatbike this weekend?

Friday - Sunday, February 4-6, we're closing fatbiking at COC. Too many intersections to tape and staff to avoid incidents with skiers, so just shutting cycling stoke down for the weekend. Snowshoeing remains viable - same trails, just way lower speed and it's a lot easier to yield to ski traffic.

How do I charge my EV over this weekend?

Don’t plan on charging your EV over this weekend at Craftsbury. We have a charger out of commission to begin with, we have a very tight parking situation regardless, and a power crunch with all the trailers and wax irons. We can not guarantee anyone a space (particularly during the days) to charge your EV. Sorry.

Still have questions? Email us and we’ll do our best to help you have a great weekend.
