Fatbike Rules and Guidelines

  • Respect our landowners; only ride on open trails designated for fatbiking - ask at the office or shop if you are uncertain about the status of a trail. Do not trespass on private land.

  • Helmets are required when riding on Craftsbury trails. Ride within your limits.

  • Skiers and snowshoers have right of way. Stop at all intersections with ski trails.

    • When on ski trails, fatbikers must stay to the edge and stay off the classic track.

  • Don't ride...

    • In unfriendly weather:  24-hour snowfall total is more than 6" or the temp is 30F or above

    • If you're making a mess:  leaving more than a 1" rut, are post-holing or struggling to ride in a straight line. Allow grooming time to set up after grooming and before riding.

    • The wrong gear:  Anything narrower than 4" tires or pressures above 10psi, bikes with gas motors or ebikes bigger than type 2

    • Without a helmet!

    • Beyond your limits - you’re riding and snowshoeing at your own risk.

    • With your dog: In the winter dogs are only allowed to accompany fatbikers on the lakes. Carry a leash, in case you need to control your dog.
