Training week of 6/26

Hi CSC squad! This week:

EVERYONE:

  1. Attendance form: do it do it do it. JUNIORS - there’s a question about whether you anticipate joining us in Victory/the Whites/Lake Placid for those trips. Please give us your best guesses.

  2. Training plan: always here and in the same place in the googleverse

  3. Lost Nation rollerski race: on Saturday 7/1 there’s a rollerski race here at the Center! Info here.

  4. Singletrack Shootout: annnnnnd there’s a biathlon race on Sunday! Info here.

  5. Nutrition info from Megan: Megan, our sports dietitian, knows a LOT! Learn some stuff—distilled into some nice and “digestible” (ha!) little chunks—here on the blog.

  6. Thunder policy: our thunder policy is the OSHA policy: if we hear rumbles, we head inside for 1/2 an hour; the clock restarts with every rumble. Sometimes this feels annoying but safety has to come first.

EC RACE + HS COMP:

  1. Morning practices @ 8:30 or 9:00 depending on the day: as we continue to try to appease the longer distance commuters and also those with midday jobs, and also get out earlier when possible when it’s sticky and hot, we’ll be doing some practices at 8:30 and some at 9:00.

  2. Overnight in Victory:

    • If you’ve joined our programs recently and have no idea what we’re talking about with either this trip or the Whites trip (below), please talk to us!

    • Victory overnight = Saturday, 7/8 - Sunday, 7/9: we know that some of you can’t make this date but we haven’t found anything that works better for everyone, so we’re sending it! We’ll be crashing at the McGill family camp. Some of you will have beds, some maybe sleeping on pads on the floor, maybe a few in tents depending on numbers. There’s running water and stuff.

    • We’ll be riding mountain bikes + running/hiking. Details coming on what we’re doing which day (somewhat weather-dependent). If you’re not comfortable on the Craftsbury trails on a mountain bike, ask coaches about whether or not this is a good trip for you.

    • Payment: haven’t figured this out yet. We just need to cover food + gas so it’ll be pretty cheap!

  3. Overnight in the White Mts:

    • Leaning hard toward Wednesday 7/26 (instead of Thursday 7/27)

    • This one will be hike/running both days

    • We’ll be straight up camping for this one—also pretty cheap

  4. Lake Placid Training camp: other than booking lodging (same as last year) for August 14-18, we haven’t gotten into planning this trip a whole lot. More to come, but let us know on the attendance form what you’re thinking. Priority for this trip goes to older + more experienced skiers. Since we don’t get free lodging for this, it’s a bit more expensive

  5. Lost Nation rollerski race: we’re expecting any of you who can comfortably navigate the full rollerski loop at speed to sign up for the race. The deadline is Friday night! We are encouraging you to do whatever distance feels best for you—you can see who is signed up on SkiReg. First year U18s: if you’re feeling game for a challenge, go ahead and try the longer race, since you’ll be doing longer races this winter! But if you’re uncertain about it, do the shorter one. NENSA is steering 2007 birth years at RDG toward the shorter race. Race info here.

  6. Sunday: if you wanna do another race, and the biathlon variety, it’ll be good practice for the winter! But also, it’ll make more sense for a lot of you to get in some distance. Find buddies and do something fun. College kids will also have OYO distance this day.

U14:

  1. Lost Nation Rollerski race: this is only a good idea for you if you’re comfortable doing the full rollerloop at speed. Talk to us if you’re not sure.

  2. Singletrack shootout: does not require shooting experience! And you have run or bike options.

  3. Sunday: no organized practice.

BKL:

  1. Back to regularly scheduled practices this week!

  2. Be ready for thunder/weather: always have sneakers and be ready to pivot.

MASTERS: looks like your coaches have another couple spicy workouts planned for you this week—get ready!

See you soon!
