Training week of 6/12

Hi CSC squad! This week:

EVERYONE:

  1. Attendance form: y’all are getting so good at this!

  2. Training plan: always here and in the same place in the googleverse

  3. Spring/summer program registration: is closed. Did ya miss it but actually want to join programs? Step 1 = feel a little sheepish. Step 2 = reach out to us. We’re pretty good at guilt-tripping but bad at saying no, it turns out? Working on that…

EC RACE + HS COMP:

  1. Testing results: from both the strength combine and the 3000 are here. Remember that taking a test at ski practice is like taking a test at school: sometimes you crush it, sometimes you don’t. When you do, that’s awesome! Congrats! When you don’t, maybe it’s because you weren’t quite prepared or maybe it’s just a really hard test. Whether tests go well or go poorly, try to take away a few things you want to work on and don’t stew on it too much.

  2. Blood stuff: as teenage endurance athletes, it’s not a bad idea to periodically get some basic bloodwork done (when you go for your annual physical, for example). When an athlete tells us they’ve been feeling particularly tired and there aren’t other super obvious causes, we generally recommend getting ferritin checked to make sure iron levels aren’t super low. Talk to your healthcare provider about this and also let us know if you have questions. ALSO, female athletes: your menstrual cycle can be a useful health indicator. If you aren’t getting your period or it’s really irregular, check in with your healthcare provider. We’re always here to talk, too.

  3. Practice schedule: this is the last week of afternoon practices. Next week (week of 6/19) we’ll move to 9:00am practices. That is also an easy week (and BKL camp for coaches) so you can expect to have at least one extra day off from training.

  4. BKL camp volunteers: if any of you are eager to volunteer with BKL camp some, talk to us! It’s Monday 6/19 - Friday 6/23, 9am - 2pm.

  5. Overnights in Victory and the White Mts: we are planning two team overnight trips, tentatively scheduled for the dates below (weather permitting). These will be pretty cheap (we’ll be largely camping), slightly dirt-baggy, and hopefully a lot of fun.

    • Saturday, 7/8: overnight @ Victory, VT, at the McGill family camp - bikes + running/hiking

    • EITHER Wednesday 7/26 or Thursday 7/27: overnight @ somewhere in the White Mountains (NH) - hike/running. If there’s one night that’s way better for you, let us know.

  6. Shoutout to Megan Chacosky: for having piles of recovery snacks ready to send along to the 3k this morning before she started her 6am kitchen shift. What a legend.

U14:

  1. Rollerskiing: we will do more of this with this group soon. The weather has just not been conducive to it recently.

  2. Practice schedule: remember that next week (week of 6/19) we shift to our summer schedule (Tues/Thurs/Sun).

  3. Props to Aemilia: for being the sole U14 to venture to U32 today to do a 1500m run!

BKL:

  1. Mountain biking: ohhhh yes we’re gonna do it this week! If you do not have a bike, or your bike is questionably safe or maybe not the right size, we can hook you up with a $5 rental from our bike shop. Let us know if you need that. That’s a special deal just for ski practices—it’s not available to the general public or at other times.

  2. Next week is off: we will NOT be having organized BKL practices the week of 6/19, during BKL camp. The majority of you are enrolled in camp and will be tuckered out and we coaches will most definitely be tuckered out. The rest of you should enjoy a break from us. If you really wanna do something training-related, come check out the Tuesday night race series!

MASTERS:

  1. Thanks/congrats to all of you who volunteered at or raced in the Black River Grand Prix on Saturday!

  2. Masters-specific details for the week haven’t been gathered at the time this blog post is going up… keep an eye on Slack/your email.

See you soon!
