Training week of 11/27

EVERYONE:

Hello from junior lunch at Anna and Ollie’s!

  1. Attendance form: do this EVERY week that your program is running!

  2. Training plan: you can see details for each practice here on the club updates (below the blog post) and also in the same place as the last 5 years in googleland

  3. Rental fittings: we’re getting closer to wrapping these up. More fittings are happening this week. Scroll down to the bottom of the club updates (back one page) to sign up. If none of these times work, reach out to us. And order rentals if you haven’t and you need to! That’s step one to the whole rental process.

  4. Hug yer groomer: okay, maybe not quite. But you may have noticed that everyone is coming HERE to ski. That’s because our all-star team in the garage has made winter happen by sheer hard work. Stop by and tell them thanks, or better yet, drop them off a note and/or treats.

  5. Waxing skis: this is a thing that happens in our sport. Give us a couple days to get up a blog post with everything you need to know (or at least most of it) and then we’ll blast it out. In the meantime, come to practice with what you have and a willingness to learn.

  6. Join the right Slack channel: you’re all part of “All-Programs” but then you need to put yourselves in the right one for your/your kid’s program. Go to “add channel” and then “browse” and then you’ll see a list pop up. Then you’ll be on top of the news for your group.

  7. Demo days: there’s a neat opportunity coming up to try equipment ‘n’ stuff! Info here.

JUNIORS:

  1. Darkness: GAH please bring headlamps to practice. Then put it in your pocket at the START of practice.

  2. 5/10k skate TT results: are here. Think about how you felt during the race, how you paced it, where you think you could improve, and then otherwise don’t dwell too much on these results. It’s early season racin’. You’ve barely skied a full week yet. Keep showing up.

  3. Bring your rollerski gear back: we’re done with wheely skis or we’ve got bigger issues

  4. Equipment: wow wow getting ready to be done with this tornado. Please order rentals if you haven’t and you need to; then schedule a rental fitting (bottom of the club updates page).

  5. In two weeks: Dec. 9 & 10 is Craftsbury’s official season opener, and the next (local) opportunity to get the racing cobwebs out before the first Eastern Cup. You can read all about it and register here. Registering early is a quick way to Ollie’s heart.

  6. EC team travel interest: if you haven’t yet filled out our team travel interest form, please do. Quarry Road is in three weeks!!

U14s:

  1. Darkness: got a headlamp? Bring it!

  2. Equipment: first, order rentals if you haven’t and you need to; then schedule a rental fitting (bottom of the club updates page).

MASTERS:

  1. Official start: the winter session officially begins Thursday at 9:30am.

  2. Classic skiing: We want to classic ski, but let’s wait to see what conditions are like. Klistering up for a sugary, icy mess is no one’s idea of a good time. Keep an eye on the Slack channel for an update prior to practice.

  3. Time trial: the Center’s weekend masters camp is wrapping up with a 7.5km time trial on Sunday and we’re going to roll Competitive Masters training that day into the time trial. 10am, technique of choice, course TBD. Keep an eye on Slack. That will be the only organized session that day (Ollie has a meeting in Waterbury and isn’t sure when he’ll be back).

  4. Attendance form: please fill it out!

BIATHLON:

  1. BKL biathlon starts Sunday, 12/3. Please wear warm clothes (more than for just ski practice), a hat, gloves (NOT mittens). We will start by learning (or reviewing) a few basic rifle safety rules and then we'll do some fun practice.

  2. U14/Juniors: We should be able to do real combos into the range on skis this week!  Yay!  Reminder to always bring a change of dry clothes to change into after ski practice, gloves (not mittens), and ideally a vest if you have one.

BKL:

  1. First full week of BKL! Woohoo!

  2. Equipment: first, order rentals if you haven’t and you need to; then schedule a rental fitting (back one level; bottom of the club updates page).

  3. Groups: after the first week or two, we will subdivide into smaller groups that we’ll work with for technique, longer skis, etc. Please be patient we’ll we’re a mega BKL blob and coaches are head-scratching about the best groupings.
