How to: Ski with your dog @ Craftsbury
Update - 20 January 2023: We’re moving this popular blog post back up the list. Here’s hoping you and your pup can enjoy skiing together at Craftsbury.
Tired of sneaking out the door while your dog looks on imploringly?
While dogs are not allowed everywhere at Craftsbury, leashed or e-collared dogs are allowed to join you on your ski or snowshoe on select ski trails in Craftsbury and Greensboro. Pets are not presently allowed on any Center snowshoe trails or singletrack during the winter.
Which ski trails
In Craftsbury: the Lakes and some of their adjacent trails. Best access points: Lower parking lot and Hosmer Point.
In Greensboro: dogs are only allowed on the Town Hall Loop. Best access point is the Greensboro Town Hall parking.
You may note that these trails are marked on our maps with a dog icon. We also show them individually on our Winter ‘21 Guest services map.
Behavior and Poo-spectations
Either bag your pet’s poo and carry it out OR get it off the trail at a minimum.
Dogs are to be leashed or on e-collar (with a leash at the ready) for their own safety and the safety of other dogs and skiers. Note that there may also be dogs that are part of ice fishing parties on the lakes. Much like masks, your leash should be deployable at a moment’s notice for everyone’s safety.
Just like snowshoers and fatbikers, dogs should stay out of the classic tracks.
Your dog is allowed to walk on the ski trail without snowshoes or skis. You need to wear that gear to prevent trail damage.
Be sure you are prepared with warm gear/booties, treats, water and that you and your buddy are up for the day’s adventures. We want to be able to welcome you back soon.
