It was a jam-packed weekend of racing for our Craftsbury juniors both at home and abroad. Back in January, U18 skier Callie Young qualified for the U18 Nation’s Cup trip through fast racing at US Cross Country Championships in Anchorage. This weekend she competed in three races Vuokatti, Finland as a member of the U18 trip. Meanwhile, a number of the CNSC juniors hopped in the SuperTour races back in Craftsbury and had great results!

U18 Nation’s Cup in Vuokatti
The U18 Nation’s Cup brings together the very best young skiers from the Scandinavian countries, including Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The weekend kicked off on January 26 with a freestyle sprint. In her first ever European race start, Young qualified in 12th place as the second American. She finished 4th in her quarterfinal heat, placing 17th overall on the day. The following day she raced a 5k classic, finishing a solid 29th in a field of 58 racers. On the final day, she anchored the USA II relay team to a 6th place finish in the 3x2.7k freestyle relay, with the 3rd fastest leg time. Results from the U18 trip are tricky to find, click HERE for the sprint final results, HERE for the classic race, and HERE for the relay.

Craftsbury SuperTour
Back at home, a few of the Craftsbury juniors hopped in the SuperTour. The SuperTour brings together all the best domestic skiers in the US, so usually fields a very competitive field, and this was no exception. CNSC skiers held their own throughout the races! On Friday, Phoebe Sweet raced to a very strong 15th in the classic sprint qualifier. She placed 4th in her quarterfinal heat for 16th overall on the day. On Sunday the women raced a 5k freestyle on the tough new homologated 5k. Phoebe Sweet raced to 26th place (1st U18), Marika Massey-Bierman placed 51st (9th U20), and Adrienne Remick placed 60th (3rd U16).
