Today brought the first day of racing at the Junior World Ski Championships in Vuokatti, Finland. Both Finn Sweet, GRP training partner, and Nina Seemann, a Craftsbury Nordic Ski Club member, raced today in a classic sprint against the best junior skiers in the world. The men competed on a 1.4-kilometer sprint course, whereas the women raced on a 1.1-kilometer course.

In the men’s race, Sweet skied strong to 44th place in the qualifier, just one spot behind fellow Vermonter Will Koch. Sweet reports, “I think I gave it all I had today. Maybe not my best feeling in a race, but it’s what I had today, and I’m satisfied with it.”

On the women’s side, Seemann raced to an impressive 45th place out of more than 80 finishers. After a one-day break, Seemann will race again on Thursday in a 5-kilometer skate race.

Full women’s results can be found here. Men’s results can be found here.
