Update - 28 Jan - Marathon Forecast
Last Updated: 28.Jan.2015
Racers and Volunteers,
Accuweather forecast for Saturday calls for temperatures F ranging from -10 to +2 with windchills forecast in the teens below zero.
We'll continue to follow the weather forecast very closely. It is going to be cold - the question is how cold. The problem is the marathon takes 3-7 hours of exposure to the elements for the volunteers and racers. We have a jury including 2 TDs who will make decisions on any changes, including shortening the race, shortening the lap, delaying the start - even possible cancellation if deemed necessary. The Jury will meet at 4:00 pm Friday and will email/post an information bulletin by 8:00 pm. Additional changes may be made in the morning prior to the scheduled start of the race.
We have already reduced the wind exposure by using Bailey Hazen trail instead of Sam's trail. See marathon course and stadium setup maps on the Craftsbury.com web site.
Suggestions for racers and volunteers to stay warm (note - we will be pulling people off the course if they show signs of frost bite or hypothermia):
Wind briefs
Ear covers
Neck gaiters/face covers
Mittens
Chemical heater pads for hands and feet
Wind breaker jacket and pants
Water bottle in insulated fanny pack
Small back pack (required for Norwegian Birkebeiner!)
Insulated pad to stand on for volunteers
Vacuum bottle with hot drink
Our goal is to keep the marathon safe and enjoyable for all involved. Please watch your e-mail and the website for further updates.
