Erik Frid and Walter Banfield were back in action today at the U23 World Championships in Varese, Italy as they raced in the repechage for a chance to compete in the A/B semifinal. The team again flew off the line near 50 strokes a minute, and found themselves in the middle of a very competitive field. By the halfway mark of the race Erik and Walter had pushed through the Czech Republic to take third, but were unable to catch the Italians for the second place spot to vie for the A/B semi tomorrow.

There was hardly any time to dwell on that result, as the duo was back to the line a little over five hours later to race in the C/D semifinal. This combination has been learning with every race they complete as they led the semi from wire to wire, taking the fastest time of the two as they head to race the C final for places 13-18 tomorrow morning at 10:54 Varese time (4:54 AM in Vermont). Good luck to both Erik and Walter as they race South Africa, Austria, Latvia, Denmark and the Czech Republic.
