U16 Championships

Last weekend, almost two hundred fourteen and fifteen-year-olds from all over New England, as well as a few from further afield, descended upon the Jackson Touring Center in Jackson, NH for the annual U16 Championships. U16’s is a two day event, with an individual race on Saturday, then a jam-packed day on Sunday with a sprint followed by a relay. There were ten Craftsbury skiers who raced. Additionally, Anna, Rick, and Claire all went as coaches. There were full teams from Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire, as well as guest athletes from New York and Australia.

Saturday was a dumping rainy day, but the inclement conditions only stoked the fire more! Boys and girls both raced 5k. U16’s has a unique start format, with four or five person-one from each state-wave starts every one minute. This is fun because it combines head to head and individual start racing.
