Sudden onset spring results in cancellations for March 22-23 racing

A ski trail melts back to mud in Craftsbury, VT, March 2025.

The ratio of skiable to non-skiable portions of our trails are heading in the wrong direction.

To paraphrase T.S. Eliot: This is how winter ends, not with a bang, but a whimper.

We were looking forward to welcoming New England XC and biathlon communities to Craftsbury this weekend - however, mother nature had other plans. After several weeks of unseasonably warm weather, the snowy winter of 2025 has come shuddering to a halt.

First casualties were the XC ski races, as they were on longer courses and crossed thru fields that had gone discontinuous after the weekend.

Next, the stadiums/fields fell victim to the 60+ degree temperatures and that spelled the end of the biathlon races.

As such, effective Wednesday afternoon NO races will be held this weekend, March 22-23 of any kind.

Some skiing for diehards remains, just not enough to safely support a race with mass starts. Find current conditions.

And we plan on racing the Mud n’Ice April 5th - though the ski leg is looking less plausible by the day.

Grooming is plowing up the fields to put as much snow on to the trails as possible.
