Sprint Doubleheader Wrap-up

The Outdoor Center was bustling with excitement for the first race of the winter 2018-2019 season: The Sprint Doubleheader. Saturday was classic day, while Sunday was freestyle technique. The double sprint format is new for this year’s Opener, and was a big hit!

The racing was a sea of green, with CNSC juniors and Green Racing Project athletes, toeing the line, as well as many CNSC and GRP alums. In Saturday’s qualifier for the women, Kait Miller was 3rd, Corey Stock was 5th, and Quincy Massey-Bierman was 12th. For the alumni crew, Heather Mooney was 2nd, Alex Lawson was 6th, Lina Sutro was 7th, Phoebe Sweet was 8th, and Callie Young was 9th. By the end of the day, Kait took the silver medal position, while Alex was 4th, Heather was 5th, and Lina was 6th. Corey was 7th, Callie was 8th, Phoebe was 9th and Quincy was 12th. That’s a lot of greenies in the top 12!

On the men’s side in the qualifier, Akeo Maifeld-Carucci was 4th, Greyson Davis was 12th, Jack Young was 13th, and Aiden Casey was 20th. Linden Stelma-Leonard was 24th, Orion Cenkl was 26th, Makail Tipton was 27th, Tzevi Schwartz was 29th, and Leo Circosta was 30th. After a full day of racing, Akeo ended up 5th, Greyson 13th, Jack 16th, and Aiden 19th. Makail was 25th, Linden was 26th, Orion was 27th, Tzevi was 29th, and Leo remained in 30th. 

On Sunday, the fast and furious sprinting continued. In the women’s qualifier, Quincy was 6th, Adrienne Remick was 13th, and GRP rower Jennifer McIlvane was 37th. On the alumni side, Heather was 1st, Alex was 2nd, and Avery Ellis was 3rd.  By race’s end, Heather finished the day on top of the podium, followed by Alex in 2nd, Quincy in 3rd, and Avery in 5th. Adrienne placed 3rd in her quarterfinal, ending her day in 12th. 

For qualifying on the men’s side, Finn Sweet was 4th, Griffin was 6th, Greyson was 15th, Jack was 24th, Orion was 32nd, and Linden was 40th. Tzevi was 41st, Owen Jones was 43rd, Makail was 45th, Leo was 47th, sculling camp director Troy Howell was 53rd, and Charlie Krebs was 55th. Summer U23 athlete Lewis Nottonson was 2nd in the qualifier. The top 30 continued their days in the heats, where Lewis and Finn made it through to the A final, finishing 2nd and 4th, respectively. Griffin Wright just missed out on the A final, finishing 3rd in his semifinal and ending the day in 7th. Greyson was 3rd in his quarterfinal, finishing his day in 15th. Jack finished 5th in his quarterfinal, landing him in 25th position.
