It's not this spring-y yet, but come celebrate the changing season with a spring sprint at Craftsbury. Photo - Chris Milliman

Last Updated: 29.Mar.2015

Thanks to one and all who enjoyed a great late winter day today. Results - now w/shooting data! There's a lot to geek out with in these, so keep scrolling down thru the book (though no shooting data to this point). You'll note that results were scored for the experts similar to a Nordic skiing sprint (A final times may not be as good as qualifying times).

Coach Miro has organized a Supersprint Biathlon for this coming Sunday. The full scoop:

VENUE: Craftsbury Outdoor Center, small biathlon range at lower field

PROVISIONAL SCHEDULE:

9:00 - 9:55     Safety and biathlon clinic for novices and zeroing for experts, bib pick-up
10:00             Expert qualification races
11:00             Novice qualification races
12:00             Finals
1:30pm          Lunch and Awards ceremony

COMPETITION INFORMATION:
Wave starts of four athletes at the arch on the lower field, up the chip hill, right towards the new building, downhill to and around the lower field and into the shooting range; Penalty loop is about 24m and is immediately after the shooting range. One lap is about 444m. Ski technique is freestyle. Note that race loop is short, so if you’re quick on classic skis and a good shot, you may just have a chance to win.

Ski one lap, shoot prone, ski second lap, shoot standing, ski final lap to the finish line at the arch.

Novices shoot from prone position both times, experts will carry the rifle on their back, novices will have their rifle on the mat;

Each athlete, besides a magazine of 5 rounds per position, also has 3 spare rounds per position which can be used to hit any remaining targets if you miss any with your first five rounds; extra rounds must be individually loaded.

After each shooting, athletes will continue on the race loop if they have no misses, or do a penalty loop(s) first, before continuing to the race loop depending on the number of misses – on penalty loop per missed target.

The first qualification races will be done in groups based on age and gender. The second race groups will be based on the results from the first race in order to achieve more competitiveness regardless of age and gender. Basically, athletes will have the chance to improve their result from the first race. Final groups of four will be decided upon athlete’s best time from two races and they will be based on gender and age group. Note that some groups might be combined in order to save time.

RIFLES & AMMO: The Center will provide rifles and ammo for all the participants; athletes are encouraged to bring their own rifles and ammo if they have them.

WAXING: Participants who are not Club members can use one of our 6 waxing benched in the new Fitness Center basement, should provide their own waxing equipment and are obliged to clean after themselves.

AWARDS CEREMONY AND LUNCH: Will be organized and provided in the new Activity Center by COC.
