SBTC arriving on campus

Summer is fast approaching, and that means its time for sculling camps and the new crop of Small Boat Training Center (SBTC) rowers is on their way. The SBTC will consist of six athletes, four women and two men who are looking to develop their skills at sculling and compete for the US at the Under-23 World Championships in Varese, Italy at the end of July.

Erik Frid joins the SBTC from Ithaca College, where he was named to the ECAC all-academic team his senior year and placed 4th in the varsity eight at the ECAC championships.

Walter Banfield is a freshman from Dartmouth who represented the US at the 2013 Junior World Championships, placing 10th in the junior men’s single.

Amy Ludovici has raced for Syracuse for the past two years in the varsity eight and comes to Craftsbury at the end of her junior year.

Radcliffe’s Mary Carmack joins us after her sophomore year where she would earn a bronze medal at the 2014 Ivy League Women’s Rowing championships in the first varsity eight.

Brett Simpson is finishing her sophomore year at Princeton where she most recently earned a bronze medal at the 2014 Ivy League Women’s Rowing championships in the first varsity four.

Kate Miller returns to the SBTC after racing for Craftsbury last summer. As a junior at UCLA she earned a fourth place finish in the first varsity eight at the PAC-12 championships. Kate will compete at the NCAA championships against future SBTC teammates Mary Carmack and Brett Simpson in Indianapolis this weekend.

Craftsbury is especially happy to welcome coach Steve Dani to help coach the group as they prepare for the U23 trials at the end of June. Steve was the women’s assistant coach at Cornell after coaching at Pocock Rowing Center in Seattle for seven years.
