Following a successful weekend of OPA Cup racing in Planica, Slovenia, GRP skier Ida Sargent was back on the World Cup and ready to go. The cross country WC tour resumed in Toblach, Italy this Saturday and Sunday, January 14th and 15th, following the Tour de Ski. Some athletes who competed in the Tour skipped the Toblach races, but most of the top sprinters were ready to toe the line for the double header freestyle sprint weekend.

On Saturday, Sargent qualified 16th in the individual freestyle sprint, +5:09 from Norwegian skier Maiken Caspersen Falla's qualifying mark. Sargent then went on to take second in her quarterfinal heat and advance automatically to the semifinals. Although she was extremely close to the leader (only +0:86 from first), she placed 6th in the second semifinal and 12th overall on the day. Fellow Americans Kikkan Randall and Sophie Caldwell placed 10th and 11th, respectively. Sargent's 12th place is her best result so far this season!

Results from the weekend can be found on FIS-ski.com. Sargent travels next to Ulricehamn, Sweden, where they will host a 10k freestyle and 4x5k women's relay this weekend. Stay tuned!
