GRP skier Ida Sargent has qualified in every World Cup sprint she’s started this season, and she continued her streak this past weekend in Falun, Sweden, site of the 2015 World Championships. Meanwhile, closer to home GRP skiers competed in the Craftsbury Marathon and Eastern Cup weekend #3 in at Rikert in Middlebury.

Falun World Cup
Sargent squeaked into the heats in Saturday’s freestyle sprint, with the 30th fastest time in qualifying. She then placed 5th in the third quarterfinal heat, which included eventual winner Stina Nilsson of Sweden, and improved her placing to 25th on the day. Liz Guiney also raced the freestyle sprint, placing 56th in qualification after a fall.
On Sunday the GRP had three women toe the line for a 15k mass start classic. Caitlin Patterson came within 20 seconds of scoring World Cup points with a 32nd, and Sargent was not far behind in 34th, with Guiney in 49th. Full results from the weekend are available on FIS-ski.com. The World Cup travels next to Pyeongchang, South Korea for pre-Olympic events this coming weekend, and Sargent, Patterson, and Guiney will all be racing.

Craftsbury Marathon/Rikert Eastern Cup
Back in Vermont, the GRP skiers were happy to be racing at home after a long streak of Western races at altitude. Ben Lustgarten took the win in the 25k men’s category at the Craftsbury Marathon, while Kaitlynn Miller won the women’s 12.5k, and actually would have been 2nd in the men’s 12.5k race! Heather Mooney raced in the Eastern Cup down at Rikert, taking 2nd in the classic sprint in both qualification and the A Final, and then 3rd the following day in a mass start 10k freestyle. Results from the marathon are available HERE and from the Eastern Cup HERE.
