GRP skier Ida Sargent was back at it this weekend in the third World Cup of the season in Davos, Switzerland. Coming off her career best 5th place finish in the classic sprint in Kuusamo, Finland, Ida came down with a cold in Lillehammer and wasn’t able to perform to her full potential. However, she bounced back quickly in Davos, Switzerland this past weekend, where the US skiers raced a distance classic and skate sprint.

Saturday’s race was the 10k/15k classic individual, and the US women had a good day, with Liz Stephen, Jessie Diggins, and Sadie Bjornsen finishing in places 20-22. Ida finished 47th, still dealing with the lingering cold and battling slow skis.

In Sunday’s skate sprint, Ida was able to turn it around and post the best US result of the day. In qualifying, she took 19th place and was just 3 seconds out of the top three. Ida usually excels in classic sprints, but she proved in her qualifier that she was ready to skate with the best in the world too. After being placed in a tough quarterfinal heat with Norwegian superstar Marit Bjoergen and Slovenian Katja Visnar, Sargent battled her way through to take 3rd place in a photo finish with German skier Sandra Ringwald. It wasn’t quite enough to net her a lucky loser position into the semifinal, but her 16th place was the best US result of the day, followed by Kikkan Randall’s 20th and Sophie Caldwell’s 22nd.

The World Cup was originally scheduled to travel to La Clusaz, France, for races on December 20th and 21st, but there isn’t enough snow at the venue, so organizers decided to keep the races in Davos for another weekend. Ida will race a 10k skate and another skate sprint, stay tuned for a report and results! Also, as always live results are available on the FIS website, and full video recap from the races is here.
