Russell Spring memorial
Last Updated: 05.May.2019
May 11, 2019, 2:00pm, we invite you to join us in the celebration of the life of Craftsbury founder, Russell Spring. The memorial will be held here at the Center, with music and reception to follow. Bring any stories you'd like to share.
Russell passed July 30, 2018. He was 92. Russell joined his wife Janet, who had pre-deceased him by a year and a half. Russell and Janet founded the Center in 1976, after purchasing the Cutler Academy campus, a former boys' school. They cut a Nordic trail network on the land, hosted sculling camps, and added running camps a short time later. Russell and Janet, and the whole Spring family, grew the Center for the next 30+ years, before selling to Dick and Judy who reformed the organization into the non-profit it is today.
Russell's curiosity, openness to new ideas and embrace of an engaged life lived outdoors formed the much of the bedrock that the current Center is built on. RIP Russell.
