We're two weeks into the three week Vermont Youth Cycling League (VTYCL) Season - a new league designed to promote mountain biking for grades 5-12. Craftsbury is psyched to be part of the league, running the Craftsbury Cycling Development Program - the team that is currently leading the league standings! Let's catch up on the action.
Week 1: Mt Ascutney, September 29
The Sport Trails of the Ascutney Basin, or STAB, played host for week one of the 2018 season, and Craftsbury riders were there to kick the season off right!
Finn Sweet led a Craftsbury sweep of the Varsity Boys race, topping teammate Jack Young and Makail Tipton to top the podium. Amelia Circosta rode away for the win for the 7-8 grade girls, with her brother Leo earning second place behind Parker Welch on the boys' side. Teammate Trevyor Densmore completed his longest race ever, for 19th place! “I had fun, it was awesome! I learned a lot and look forward to the next race,” commented Trevyor. Week 2: Cochran's Ski Area, October 7
This past weekend the Craftsbury team headed west to Cochran's Ski Area in Richmond, VT for round two.
Finn was edged by former teammate Trey Jones, now riding (and skiing) for Green Mountain Valley School in the Varsity boys race. Makail took the third step on the podium, besting teammate Jack by 32s as Jack ended 5th. Amelia had another solid day in the 7-8 grade girls' race taking the win, with Owen Jones taking second on the boys' side of the 7-8th grade racing, teammate Leo Circosta took 4th, and Trevyor improving to 12th. We have wrapups from the riders themselves - find them on the blog.
