Preview of Upcoming Head of the Charles Regatta

This weekend the GRP rowers will head down to Boston to compete in the 50th Head of the Charles, along with around 11,000 other athletes and over 400,000 spectators. Undoubtedly one of the largest regattas that our squad goes to, this event offers a great chance to mix it up with some of the best in the world over the 3-mile course. Here’s a quick preview of all of the Craftsbury representation over the weekend, stay tuned for some awesome racing!

Phil Henson leads off for the GRP in the men’s alumni 8 on Saturday at 12:38 in the “Evergreen Boat Club B” boat of Dartmouth alumni with bow number 15 where he will be sitting in 5 seat. Peter Graves is next up with his brother Tom Graves with bow number 12 of the men’s championship double at 3:34. Emily Driessigacker is next in the women’s champ doubles at 3:46 with fellow Dartmouth alumni Hayley Daniell under bow number 23.

Craftsbury has three entries in the men’s championship single at 4:30 with John Graves leading the charge under bow number 7, Ben Dann right behind with bow number 8 and Erik Frid at bow number 19. Steve Whelpley is recovering from a shoulder injury and will not be racing this weekend. The women’s champ single closes out Saturday’s racing at 4:39 with Elizabeth Sonshine at bow number 8 and Maggie Fellows at bow number 10.

Sunday’s racing starts up with the men’s lightweight singles at 11:32, with Hugh McAdam in pole position under bow number 1 and Phil Grisdela at bow number 5. Sarah Keller is next in the women’s lightweight single at 11:41 under bow number 21.

The last event of the weekend for the GRP is John Graves racing in the sculling “Great 8” comprised of some of the top scullers in the world in the championship men’s 8 at 2:03 PM under bow number 5.
