Patterson Back on the World Cup Stage; GRP Skiers at Harvard Carnival

Following the conclusion of US Cross Country Championships in Houghton, Michigan, the Green Racing Project skiers had a short amount of time to recover and recharge for the next period of racing. After a week and half off from racing, they jumped back into it this weekend both on the World Cup and at home.

Coming off a successful US Nationals where she placed on the podium in every race, Caitlin Patterson earned start rights at the distance World Cup in Nove Mesto, in the Czech Republic. Saturday’s race was a 10k freestyle individual start. Patterson finished in 39th place, +2:17.7 from race winner Therese Johaug, and under 15 seconds from the top 30. The following day she placed 44th in the 10k classic pursuit, with the 43rd fastest time on day. The World Cup moves to Oberstdorf, Germany next weekend for a skiathlon and classic sprint.

Meanwhile, back in the States a few of the GRP skiers were able to hop in the 5/10k freestyle races at Harvard Carnival, which was relocated to Craftsbury due to low snow at the Dublin School in New Hampshire. In the men’s 10k, Akeo Maifeld-Carucci placed 6th. On the women’s side, Liz Guiney took 3rd in the women’s 5k, with Kaitlynn Miller placing 5th. Up next, the Craftsbury SuperTour (aka Lost Nation Cup) is in Craftsbury this weekend, starting on Friday January 24th with a classic sprint, then 5/10k freestyle individual starts Saturday, and a 10/15k classic mass start on Sunday.
