Paralympics at Craftsbury
Last Updated: 01.Jan.2016
We're eager to ring in the New Year with Paralympic Continental Cup competitions in biathlon and Nordic skiing all next week. We'll be hosting a wide variety of athletes, from sit skiers, to standing adaptive skiers as well as visually impaired athletes. In addition to established Paralympic medalists like Andy Soule (the first American to take any Olympic medal in biathlon), Oksana Masters, and Sean Halsted, we'll be welcoming new athletes as well, with classification opportunities in the week for athletes to come, try the sport, and be identified and properly categorized.
The racing kicks off next Wednesday, with a full schedule for the remainder of the week:
Wednesday, January 6 - Mid-distance XC skate race, 10:00am
Thursday, January 7 - Short-distance XC classic race, 9:00am
Saturday, January 9 - Biathlon Sprint, 10:00am
Sunday, January 10 - Biathlon Individual, 10:00am
Courses will vary, but will be generally in the soccer fields, Murphy's Field, Round-a-bit and perhaps Round-a-lot. Come cheer! And we hope to have demonstrations of sit-skis available as well as other equipment to give everyone a better sense of the scope of the feats of these athletes - watch the website for more details.
Want to get closer to the action? As always, we couldn't pull these races off without the help of our volunteers. Reach out to volunteers@craftsbury.com for current opportunities
We'll be posting information here, as well as on www.craftsburyipc.com, Facebook and our other social media streams. Resolve to experience this side of skiing and biathlon; come on up to Craftsbury next week!
