Mike Gibson returns as GRP Biathlon Coach
The Craftsbury Green Racing Project is excited to announce that Michael Gibson will be joining us to coach the biathlon program starting in the spring of 2020. Gibson is a Green Racing Project alumnus who retired from competition in 2018 after five years competing with the GRP as a biathlete. More recently, Gibson was an assistant coach for US Biathlon and coached the IBU Cup team through the entire 2019-2020 season.
A native of Stowe, Vermont, Gibson has been coming to Craftsbury since he was young, attending the annual pre-Christmas training camp and then regularly training under Pepa Miloucheva starting his freshman year of high school. He raced for Lamoille Union and then the Stowe High School ski teams. After, that he attended UVM where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. Gibson, when asked about his new job, said that he is most excited about returning to a community he loves.
Ethan Dreissigacker, who served as the interim GRP biathlon coach since the departure of Sam Dougherty in November 2019, will continue to work as a club coach in Craftsbury with our BKL, junior and masters teams. Ethan recently returned from Martell, Italy, where he was an assistant coach for the US Biathlon team at IBU Cups 6 and 7.
The future of biathlon is bright in Craftsbury with our recent developments in infrastructure, and additional staff members. We are looking forward to growing programs and opportunities for biathletes of all ages and levels with our brand new range and paved rollerski loop, slated for the summer of 2020.
Further information about our upcoming biathlon programming, including applications for GRP and summer U23 teams, will be available soon.
