Last Updated: 01.Jan.2019
Green Racing Project skier Ben Lustgarten is currently in Europe competing for the U.S. in the annual Tour de Ski. The Tour is a unique event on the cross country World Cup circuit in that it packs a large number of races into a short time frame. With 7 races in 9 days in 4 different countries, it is a whirlwind event designed to test the stamina and mental fortitude of any athlete.
The Tour de Ski started out on December 28 in Toblach, Italy. In the opening freestyle sprint in Toblach, Lustgarten finished 105th. The following day was a 15k freestyle race, also in Toblach. Lustgarten placed 74th in that event. Skiers had one rest day before the Tour picked up again in Val Mustair, Switzerland. On January 1, Lustgarten placed 77th in the freestyle sprint in Val Mustair.
The Tour continues January 2 and 3 in Oberstdorf, Germany with a 15k classic mass start and a 10k freestyle pursuit. Finally, it moves to Val di Fiemme, Italy for the final two stages, another 15k classic mass start, and then the final climb, a pursuit style freestyle race on Alpe Cermis.
