Juniors Take on US Nationals
Last Updated: 16.Jan.2017
Last week Phoebe Sweet, Callie Young, and Alex Lawson travelled to Utah to compete at US Nationals at Solider Hollow alongside much of the GRP. This year boasted one of the largest US Nationals fields ever, with hundreds of racers from both the United States and Canada.
The week was full of variable and challenging weather conditions, further increasing the difficulty of racing at nearly 6,000 feet. The series kicked off on Saturday with a 10k skate race, which was delayed one hour due to cold weather. Once the race was under way, Alex placed 104th (19th U20), Phoebe was 160th (31st U18), and Callie was 169th (37th U18).
Sunday brought warming temperatures, lots of rain, and a day full of classic sprinting. Alex once again led the way for the girls in 121st overall (23rd U20).
Phoebe was 168th overall (34th U18), followed closely by Callie in 174th (38th U18).
The trio finished out their Nationals campaign with a 7.5k classic mass start- a juniors only race. Callie led the way in 52nd, followed by Phoebe in 71st, and Alex in 76th.

Congrats to these girls for making the trip out West and competing in such a strong world-class field! Stay tuned for more junior reporting coming from the Quarry Road, in Waterville, Maine this weekend!
