GRP's Patterson 23rd at World Mountain Running Championships
Last Updated: 31.Jul.2017
Sure, most skiers prefer to stick to the basics- train in the summer and race in the winter. However, some like to mix things up a bit and get in their running legs under them during the warmer months. Earlier this summer GRP skier Caitlin Patterson hopped in the US Mountain Running Championships at Cranmore, NH, and finished 4th, which was enough to qualify her for World Championships in July. She also raced the Whiteface Skyrace, taking first place in the senior women's category.
On July 30, she competed along with three other US women at World Mountain Running Championships in Premana, Italy. The senior women ran two laps of a 6.5k course, for 13k total. Caitlin placed 23rd with a time of 1:12:14. Perhaps most impressive is the fact that going in to the competition, she was ranked 94th (out of 94 women).
Caitlin was also a member of the gold medal winning US women's team! The other US women placed 5th, 8th, and 13th, which gave them 26 points to edge out Italy and the Czech Republic in 2nd and 3rd. Although Caitlin's fourth place on the team didn't contribute to team points, she was able to displace other team's scoring members. Congratulations to Caitlin on a very successful performance in her first World Mountain running appearance.
