GRP/CBC LM2x: 4th at World Cup II
Last Updated: 23.Jun.2014
While the GRP preps to race on the home front this week, the second World Cup in Aiguebelette, France was decided this weekend. Green team member Josh Konieczny was racing in the men’s lightweight double after winning the event at the second National Selection Regatta in May with Austin Meyer of Cambridge Boat Club. The duo was competing in France to try and qualify for the World Championships in Amsterdam with a sixth-place or better finish in a tough field of 30 lightweight doubles. Josh and Austin accomplished that mission on Saturday, finishing in the top three of their semi to earn a berth in the A final.
However, with their ticket for Amsterdam settled the combination was still not done, finishing fourth in Sunday’s A final for one of the best US results ever in the event. There are two events for the lightweight men at the Olympics, and only the double in sculling so competition for the event is fierce. Congrats to Josh and Austin and also to the rest of team USA who took home gold in the men’s and women’s eights, silver in the women’s double and quad, bronze in the men’s four and a silver and bronze in the women’s pair.
