GRP Skiers Wrap Up Season at SuperTour Finals
Last Updated: 27.Mar.2016
The Green Racing Project women wrapped up the 2015-2016 season with the last two races at SuperTour Finals/US Distance Nationals in Craftsbuy- a mixed club relay and 30k classic mass start. With a bit of new snow, the trails were in great condition and the 3.4k loop held up very well through the end of the series.
For Thursday's mixed relay, teams usually field a 4-person relay with 2 men and 2 women from each club. However, as the GRP currently has no male skiers, the women teamed up with men from other clubs to compete. Ida Sargent and Caitlin Patterson had a great result in their relay; they partnered with Noah Hoffman and Tad Elliott to take 2nd place, just behind the team from APU. Ida had the fastest female time in the classic leg and Caitlin the second fastest in the freestyle leg. Liz Guiney and Hallie Grossman partnered with Colorado University skiers Petter Reistad and Mads Stroem to take 4th overall. Kaitlynn Miller skied the classic leg of the Bowdoin college relay team which placed 21st, however she had the 7th fastest female classic split. Heather Mooney partnered with 2 Dartmouth skiers and an Aspen Valley Ski Club skier to place 17th.
After a one-day break, the women contested their final race of the season, a 30k classic. A schedule change moved the women's start up to 10 am, and fast tracks for the first few laps helped the skiers face the 9 laps up Screamin' Mimi. The GRP women had a fantastic day, with Ida Sargent and Caitlin Patterson taking 2nd and 3rd place behind SMS-T2 skier Jessie Diggins, and Kaitlynn Miller taking 5th. Liz Guiney finished in 11th, Hallie Grossman 24th, and Heather Mooney 34th.
The skiers will take some rest now before resuming training in May. Thanks to all for following along and cheering!
