Green Racing Project skiers had a successful weekend of racing in the opening SuperTour races in West Yellowstone, Montana. Despite low snow conditions, the organizers were able to pull off a fair set of races, thus kicking off the 2017-2018 SuperTour season. Over on the other side of the globe, GRP skier Ida Sargent raced the second weekend of World Cup races in Lillehammer.

SuperTour in West Yellowstone, Montana
On Saturday athletes raced a 1.3k freestyle sprint. Four GRP athletes qualified for the heats, with Caitlin Patterson leading the way as the 3rd fastest women’s qualifier. Kaitlynn Miller also qualified in 6th, and Liz Guiney in 16th. On the men’s side, Ben Lustgarten qualified in 4th, and Adam Martin was 37th, just missing the heats. Both Kaitlynn and Liz advanced to the semifinals, where they were eliminated and placed 9th and 10th, respectively. Caitlin made the A Final but was involved in a tangle and ended up 6th. Ben Lustgarten placed the tactical game as he advanced through each heat, and pulled off 2nd place in the A Final, his best ever skate sprint result. The following day, athletes raced a 10/15k mass start classic. In the men’s race, Ben made the podium again, finishing 3rd, while Adam took 11th. On the women’s side, both Kaitlynn and Caitlin made the podium in 2nd and 3rd, respectively, and Liz took 19th. The skiers race next in Silver Star, BC this weekend for a combined SuperTour/NorAm. Results from the classic race and sprint qualifier are available on Sportstats.ca, and the heats result are on SkiRunBikeMt.com.

World Cup in Lillehammer, Norway

In the classic sprint, she finished 44th and missed out on qualifying for heats. The following day she placed 55th in the 15k skiathlon (7.5k classic, 7.5k skate). The World Cup continues next weekend in Davos, Switzerland with a freestyle sprint and distance freestyle. Results from the World Cup are available, as always, on FIS-ski.com.
