GRP Skiers at the 2020 Lost Nation Cup and Oberstdorf World Cup
Green Racing Project skiers had a successful weekend of racing at the Lost Nation Cup in Craftsbury, VT January 24-26, which combined the Craftsbury SuperTour, UVM Carnival and a NENSA Eastern Cup for a three race series. Meanwhile, Caitlin Patterson had a season best World Cup result in Oberstdorf, Germany.
Racing in Craftsbury kicked off Friday with a classic sprint. Kailtynn Miller led the way in qualifying, with 5 GRP athletes (and former GRP athlete Ida Sargent) making heats. Qualifying places:
2nd- Kaitlynn Miller
4th- Liz Guiney
6th- Ida Sargent
7th- Ben Lustgarten
18th- Adam Martin
24th- Braden Becker
32nd- Akeo Maifeld-Carucci
Lustgarten and Martin both advanced to semifinals, where they placed 7th and 10th overall, respectively. On the women’s side, all three women made the A Final, where Sargent took the win, Miller was 2nd, and Guiney was 4th.
Saturday brought 5/10k freestyle individual start races. On the men’s side, Lustgarten took the win in a time of 25:15. Martin finished in 5th, followed by Becker in 7th and Maifeld-Carucci in 19th. On the women’s side, Sargent placed 7th, Miller took 9th, and Guiney was 14th.
On the final day of racing, GRP athletes took on 10/15k classic mass start races. In the women’s 10k, Miller took 2nd place, followed by Sargent in 6th and Guiney in 9th. On the men’s side, Lustgarten won once again, followed by Martin in 4th, Becker in 13th and Maifeld-Carucci in 14th.
Meanwhile, on the World Cup Caitlin Patterson raced in Oberstdorf, Germany. On Saturday, she placed 34th in the 15k skiathlon, where athletes change from classic to skate equipment at the halfway point. She also raced in the classic sprint qualifier on Sunday, taking 61st. The World Cup moves to Falun, Sweden the weekend of February 8 & 9.
