GRP Skiers at Lahti World Cup

Three of our Green Racing Project skiers competed at the World Cup in Lahti, Finland this weekend. Following the completion of the Ski Tour 2020, the World Cup moved to Finland and a narrow track of man-made snow. Most European venues are struggling with snow this year, but organizers are still making World Cups happen with a combination of creativity and snow making.

Saturday, February 29th was a 10/15k individual start classic. GRP skiers Adam Martin and Ben Lustgarten started just one bib apart in the men’s 15k, with Lustgarten in bib 17 and Martin in bib 18. By the end of the race 15k later, Martin had gained 4 seconds on Lustgarten, and they finished next to each other on the results list, in 46th and 47th, respectively. The result was Lustgarten’s top WC finish of the season, as well as Martin’s first World Cup start of 2020.

In the women’s 10k race, Caitlin Patterson skied to a solid 36th place finish. Kaitlynn Miller was slated to race but did not start due to a cold.

Both the US men and women were short on athletes and did not field a relay team for the following day in Lahti. However, racing continues on Wednesday, March 4 in Drammen, Norway with a freestyle sprint and the Holmenkollen 30/50k classic over the weekend, so stay tuned for results from there!
