GRP Biathletes Wrap up World Cup #1 in Oestersund

This past weekend, GRP biathletes wrapped up World Cup #1 in Oestersund, Sweden with individual races, and a men’s and women’s relay. In the individual race, Clare Egan had the top US result of the day for the women finishing 35th with 4 misses. She was followed by Susan Dunklee in 73rd and Emily Dreissigacker in 83rd. For the men, Alex Howe finished 81st with 5 misses.

In the women’s relay, Clare, Susan, and Emily were joined by USBA teammate Joanne Reid. Susan scrambled for the team cleaning her prone stage with no spares. She used two spares in standing. She tagged off to Clare who used one spare per shooting stage. Emily anchored for the team skiing a strong leg and also using just one spare per shooting stage. The team finished 10th with no penalties and a total of 8 spares. In the men’s race, Alex was joined by USBA teammates Sean Doherty, Leif Nordgren, and Travis Cooper. Alex skied the third leg using three spares in standing and one in prone. The team finished 15th with no penalties and a total of 13 spares.

World Cup racing continues next week in Hochfilzen, Austria with sprint races starting December 13th. Also stay tuned for the GRP biathletes competing on the IBU Cup where racing starts December 12th in Ridnaun-val Ridanna, Italy. Also, Raleigh Goessling will be competing at home in Craftsbury beginning December 19th at IBU Cup trials.
