GRP Biathletes Race in Nove Mesto and Obertilliach

This past weekend GRP biathlon again had athletes competing on both the World Cup and IBU Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic and Obertilliach, Austria respectively. 

World Cup

In the opening sprint race Clare Egan had a strong performance placing 26th with two misses. Susan Dunklee finished 39th also with two misses. For the men, Jake Brown placed 78th. In the pursuit, Clare had another great race moving up from 26th to 20th with three misses. Susan placed 59th. Clare was the only US woman competing in the mass start where she finished 14th with three misses. World Cup racing action will resume after the holidays on January 10th in Oberhof, Germany. 

IBU Cup

The first IBU race of the weekend was an individual event. Kelsey Dickinson had a strong race and was the top US female finisher placing 27th with only one miss. Emily Dreissigacker finished 33rd and Hallie Grossman was 63rd. For the men, Alex Howe placed 45th with four misses. The next race was a Super Sprint with a qualifying round and then a final round. In the qualifying round, Emily placed 20th with just one miss. She was followed by Kelsey in 80th and Hallie in 81st. Emily advanced to the finals where she moved up to 10th with one miss. Alex placed 46th in the qualifying round with one miss. The last race of the IBU Cup weekend was a sprint. Emily rounded out a strong week of racing with a 21st place. Kelsey finished 44th with one miss and Hallie placed 57th with 2 misses. In the men’s race, Alex finished 67th. Some athletes will stay in Europe while some will return to the US and race USBA trials in Soldier Hollow, Utah in early January to determine the team for the next period of IBU Cup racing.
